Philosophy

The idea of the seminar was built in order to give the cautious scientific contribution to forming a real picture of Muslims and Islam that can be taken into consideration by decision-makers in both Europe and US. It was to give the concept of more comprehensive and mutual security based on understanding and integration between the northern and southern posts of the Mediterranean province through the Mediterranean meetings and dialogues and the Arab-European partnership agreements, especially the Jordanian one. Middle East Studies Centre (MESC) in cooperation with Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in the University of Jordan held a one-day seminar on this topic. Academic researchers from Europe, United States, Arab, and Islamic countries discussed the changes in relation between the West and Political Islam and the role of Arab-Israeli conflict in shaping this relation. They also discussed the future of this relation. It is a trial to reach as much as possible of common ground views for better relations to the next generations of both parties. The main philosophy stands to create an influential flux of themes, perspectives and aspirations of the elite of both sides for the needed reform of this relation.

Importance

  1. It expressed the role of the Jordanian establishments, especially the University of Jordan and the Middle East studies Centre, to change the negative stereotyping of Muslims in the West.
  2. It contributed objectively to reform the image of Islam and its political concept in the Middle East. That contribution would provide the decision-making institutions in the West with factual views and information. The European Union progressing role in the region and the interests of the United States would be much affected by the outcomes of this seminar.
  3. To reform the comprehensive and mutual concept of security for different parties. That seems to be so important as a part of the Southern-Northern relations. In the shade of the Mediterranean meetings and dialogues, the European-Arab partnership agreements and the new trends towards Globalism, this seminar helps to clarify the different approaches to reach the better for all.
Goals
  1. To study the main changes of the western views towards the Political Islam in the Middle East.
  2. To study the different forms of the political Islam movements and address the western different trends for this variety.
  3. To explore the future relation between the West and the Islamic societies in general and in the resurgence of the Political Islam in the next two decades in particular.
  4. To address the Political Islam trends and modes towards the west in the Middle East. To explore the role of these trends to reform the Middle Eastern societies and their relation with the west.
